The Fork Of Indecision
After 6 hours walking along a path through a dense forest, 5 of which have passed without seeing a single soul, you finally accept you’re hopelessly lost.
Your map appears to have been one that Columbus decided was out of date, your compass really didn’t like being left in your bag with your trusty magnet and the pesky birds appear to have eaten all your bread crumbs that would have guided you back from whence you came.
Would You Shoo Away a Duck?
So there I am at Disney’s Epcot Center. My daughter and I decided to take a little break and enjoy a snack at the Morocco pavilion. After dropping what used to be a full day’s wages on falafel and a kid’s snack, we were sitting outside at one of the little patio tables.
Music was playing, people were smiling and wandering around. It was very festive.
Rich and Happy Comes In All Sizes
Live is spooky isn’t it? Not long after writing the post entitled ‘Never, never, never give up’ I was sent a link by a friend to a talk on TED. I’m not sure how many links I get sent per week, but it’s a lot and I probably only ever get round to watching about half of them.
Speakers at TED are only allowed to talk for a maximum of 20 minutes and as such all the talks there are punchy and to the point. They are also almost always brilliant as TED only invites the most engaging and interesting speakers. People that have valuable stories, information and insights to share and people that are more often than not living the Rich and Happy life.
Could This Work?
We're looking for some feedback about an idea that if it works, could help drive the How To Be Rich and Happy project forward in leaps and bounds.
If you read the post ‘Never, never, never give up’, you’ll know that we have been encountering some sticking points recently. A number of the charities we have approached are either not interested, or in most cases simply don’t return e-mails or phone calls. It’s frustrating, but it is what it is.
Never, Never, Never Give Up!
I was reminded of the Winston Churchill quote “Never, never, never give up” last week as we seemed to be taking two steps forward and one step back in our quest to giveaway 1,000,000 copies of How To Be Rich and Happy.
Over the last week or so we have had the following setbacks occur:
Criticism Is Never Personal
Everybody comes in for criticism at some time or other it’s part of being a human being. Having a life coaching blog that’s read by a few thousand people means I regularly receive it either in the comments or via e-mail and I can honestly say, it’s always welcomed.
I know for some people that seems like a strange thing to say, but the Rich and Happy approach it is very easy to grasp. It is either valid criticism and gives me an opportunity to learn, or it’s invalid and I can ignore it.
Should We Be Flattered Or Offended?
Try this one on for size. As part of our efforts to donate a million copies of How to be Rich and Happy, Tim and I contributed some books to a silent auction. The purpose of which was to raise money for teen sports programs.
And for who knows what reason, someone stole half of the books we donated off the silent auction table. Now in one sense we are flattered. The thieves passed on expensive golf clubs, gift certificates, paintings, and a host of other very valuable items.
It’s Not The Economy, Stupid
It’s been an interesting week signing hundreds of copies of How To Be Rich and Happy and then shipping them all over the world. I've probably seen enough customs declarations forms to last me a life time, but I am still incredibly grateful to all of you that have helped us kick things off in fine style. Your help has guaranteed that we'll have enough money to reorder the next batch of books to giveaway, so a huge thanks.
As this is a charitable project we’ve had to do everything ourselves on a shoe string. Consequently the past few days have been somewhat crazy making sure the right books went into the right envelopes and the correct forms were assigned to each.
You Only Have To Ask
We‘ve talked here and in some detail in How To Be Rich and Happy, about how truly rich and happy people have no problem asking for help. Nobody is an island and nobody can get by in life without help from other people, and yes I do mean, nobody!
The difference is, rich and happy people get that, poor and unhappy people often do not.
Nobody Is Motivated By Money
I’m sure you know by now that the How To Be Rich and Happy pre-sale is well under way. The 750 signed first edition copies are up for sale and a lot have already been snapped up. If you haven’t got yours, what are you waiting for?
A couple of people have asked what we can do for people that already bought the ebook and would also like the physical version. That’s a fair question and I’m more than happy if that’s you and you buy a hard copy too, to then send you an additional copy free of charge.
