Free Life Coaching Offer
There’s a book called ‘Nothing Down’ written in the 1980‘s by Robert Allen. I confess I’ve not read the book, (John rates it very highly) although I’m aware of the story. Allen put his reputation on the line by taking a challenge from a journalist who said he couldn’t go to San Francisco and buy a house within 72 hours with zero money down. It was an extremely close call, but Allen managed to pull it off.
Allen went on to take on another even greater challenge. This time he was tasked with teaching somebody else to do exactly the same thing as he had done.
He went to St Louis and handed out fliers to people entering the unemployment office. The leaflets invited them to attend a free seminar at the employment office itself where they could learn to make money and get off unemployment for ever.
The fact he was doing this at the unemployment offices would have removed most peoples fears it was a scam. So with the potential for them to make lots of money without any risk on their part you would imagine Allen would be inundated with attendees.
Sadly that wasn’t the case as only 20 people from the hundreds that had been made aware of the event turned up.
When the 20 or so people arrived they were informed that the event had been canceled. All but 3 people left without complaint, but the 3 that insisted they should be helped then became the chosen ones.
It was an ingenious method of making sure Allen had people with him that had the requisite tenacity, drive and desire to make something so difficult happen. And happen it did.
Allen had the courage of his convictions and I admire that. So maybe the time is ripe for me to show my confidence in How To Be Rich and Happy.
I Can Help You Be Rich and Happy!
That’s a pretty big claim, I think you’ll agree, but I’m making it anyway and I’m prepared to back it up by agreeing to work with one client for free for 6 months. If you contacted me and asked me a price for doing something like this I'd probably be talking in the region of a $2,000 investment.
Now before you dive in to the comments to say me, me, me, there are some strict, and some not so strict, criteria you’ll have to follow for me to even consider working with you.
Desire
I once did this on my own blog and among the 50 or so replies I got was one that said,
“I wasn’t that interested in life coaching, but seeing as it’s free I thought I’d throw my hat into the ring.”
No, no and thrice NO!
I cannot help anybody that wont help themselves or is so apathetic. I want somebody that will do whatever it takes, somebody that likes the thought of kicking down doors, walking through walls and ignoring gatekeepers. I’ll screen applicants, but if I make a mistake and choose somebody that starts wussing out or making excuses I’ll drop them in a heartbeat with no apologies.
Areas To Work On
I really want you to have multiple areas of your life that you want to improve on and there has to be something to do with work such as advancing your career, making the leap into becoming self-employed etc. Other things I can help with are getting fitter, lowering stress levels, goal setting etc.
I’ll be taking a slightly different approach to this than with normal life coaching clients and I’m happy to blend a bit of coaching with more consulting type work and of course some severe arse kicking if you slack off. I may even be asking some of my friends to help out if I think they can, but no promises on this one because I haven't even told them I'm doing this yet!
I have 20 years experience in sales in B2B and B2C, been involved in three start -ups and I’m happy to share that knowledge as well as helping with social networking if/when needed.
NOTE: If you are currently under the care of a mental health practitioner you would have to notify them and get their ok before we could work together. This is most definitely NOT therapy!
Recording The Journey
I would prefer it if you have your own blog or mailing list to help spread the word, but that’s not an absolute must.
However, what is a ‘must’ is that you will have to commit to writing about your experience at least once a month. If you don’t have your own blog I would consider somebody writing for this blog. No exceptions to this rule.
Language
You must use English as your first language and also be available to speak either via Skype or a landline phone if overseas. I have clients in Australia, South America, Europe and right the way across North America, so it doesn’t matter where you live if your English is 100% fluent and you’re flexible with your schedule to take into account potential time differences.
Timing
You will work with me for 6 months starting 1st May or thereabouts. The first 2 sessions will be an hour or so long and probably within a week or so of each other, but as we move along we'll stretch them out and probably drop them down to 30 minutes and make them more punchy. Having said that, you'll have my cell and my home phone number and I'll be available to help when you need it - within reason!
As we say in the book, it's important to be patiently unrealistic and it may take more than 6 months before you're truly living your Rich and Happy life, but then again it may take less, my job is to get you on the right track.
Subscribe
The final condition is you must be subscribed to this blog either via RSS or via e-mail. I mean come on, how serious can you be about this if you’re not even reading the How To Be Rich and Happy blog?
So if you’re still interested, e-mail tim at howtoberichandhappy dot com with the reasons why I should pick you above anybody else that may apply.
I also want to know if you have read How To Be Rich and Happy. This is will not be a factor whatsoever in my decision, I just want to know as it may mean I will need to alter my approach.
If you know somebody else that may benefit from working with a life coach, please let them know about this.
The closing date for applications is 9.00am on April 5th 2010 and I'll announce the winner here shortly after.
Rich and Happy Update: We have finally ordered the first 3,000 copies of the book and the great news is we have used a printer in the US. That means we get the books some time in May!
On top of that a French publisher wants to buy the rights to the book for French speaking territories so things are really moving.

This sounds excellent, Tim.
I have an issue with translating knowledge into action, and have come to realize that I need to work with someone to find ways to better put my knowledge into action.
You seem to be the perfect candidate, given your expertise, success stories and humor (the last ranking highly in my book!).
I’ll be sure to submit my entry.
March 30th, 2010 - 17:52
Wow, congratulations guys! I am currently on Page 150 of the book. I absolutely love the values exercise. I discovered that ‘Happiness and Health’ are tied at #1, for my toward values.
My away from #1 value, is ill health. I’m not surprised, because I am dealing with a Chronic Disease, and it’s extremely frustrating to get off track. My second away from value, is hate, and third is cynicism. I like the accuracy, because I did cut out the word ‘hate’ from my vocabulary. When I accidentally slip up, and say ‘hate’ in a sentence. I usually smack myself on the side of the head. Seriously, it works!
I will be submitting an entry to the contest!
Thanks again,
Josh Lipovetsky.

So where is the application form?
March 31st, 2010 - 14:07
Definitely put me an entry in Tim. Help in helping me (or us ) in getting my fellow colleagues to work even more effectively as a team would be invaluable, see you soon, cheers Nic.

Tim this is a truly amazing offer. I look forward to seeing the announcement!

@ Haider – Thanks man and I think you hit on one of the things most people have difficulty with, and that’s applying what they know.
@ Josh – Glad you’re enjoying the book mate.
@ Dick – Did you read the post?
@ Nic – Yeh right, one of the best managers I’ve ever worked with needs *my* help. I have 100% confidence in you.
@ Mick – Thanks mate, I think I’m actually going to pull the closing date forward because I have had so many enquiries.

This is an interesting article post. Thank you for sharing.

I’m a big believer in marketing through attraction – not vague “feel good”, but a solid promise of value that can really make a difference, which moves people to take action.
I’m impressed. Not many people out there stand behind their work, or know how to communicate it so powerfully.
Thanks for such a great example. I’m new to copywriting and marketing, and I’d like to quote you as an excellent case study. Trust that’s okay with you?

@ Melisa – Thanks for applying!
@ life coach – You’re welcome
@ Mathew – Thank you for the feedback and sure you can do that, be my guest.
April 3rd, 2010 - 16:04
Tim,
I would have put on my entry “Cos you coach Johnny B Truant”…that would be enough of a reason, the man is a genius
Btw, $2000 for 6 months coaching sounds kind of cheap? Maybe it’s in the exchange rate, or the fed printing too much paper…
All the best,
Thor.
April 4th, 2010 - 10:42
@ Thor – Don’t often see JBT and genius in the same sentence
I’m expecting things to start fairly close together and then drift to monthly sessions so I’m really guessing with the pricing if I’m being honest.
April 5th, 2010 - 08:28
Tim,
I am a new subscriber to your blog who was prepared and excited to purchase your book. I see that you have retracted your offer for free coaching as well as closed comments on that particular post. Since one of your requirements for the contest was to sign up for your blog it is rather apparent that your only incentive was to increase your mailing list.
As I received your post that you retracted your offer, I was in the middle of submitting a thoughtful email to you for consideration – please note it is not yet 9AM on my Coast as I am a California girl and you clearly indicated a due date of April 5th by 9AM without any indication of EST time.
In the spirit of kicking down doors I would typically be inclined to insist that the contest is still open for another 50 minutes, but your deception is so transparent that I simply have no desire to be coached by a peson who does not keep his word. Additionally, I have taken my name off your mailing list as I do not support people or businesses who lure customers/clients in via deceptive tactics. You have lost my business and lost my interest in ever purchasing your book.
April 5th, 2010 - 12:03
I’m sorry to see in your later post that you were so disappointed by the response to your generous offer. I didn’t even apply and I feel guilty for having so much fear and self-doubt.
April 5th, 2010 - 14:31
@ Angela – You have my reply, thanks for the feedback
@ Jennifer – No need to feel like that and sorry if I’m in anyway to blame! Seriously, it was only a way of me finding out the most committed people. I didn’t really close it down.
April 6th, 2010 - 10:07
i think i am with Jennifer on this one – it is your choice, Tim, to offer your services (esp when for free) to anyone you select, but the way you went about it means that a certain personality type and level of confidence and aggression has to be present to win. this feeds into stereotypes and also leaves people who are less confident, even fearful, out of the running. what it has taught me is that i am too trusting and not aggressive enough. i am not sure if i want to change these things . . . . i guess that might be why i need a coach . . . and now we are full circle.
April 6th, 2010 - 11:07
@Tim: I had a feeling it was a motivator move…good one. And of course you are not to blame for how I feel!
@melisa: I’m definitely running around that full circle with you! Seems that people who are already that confidently aggressive and purposeful wouldn’t need a coach. But I guess that’s why Tim noted it’s not therapy. I have yet to meet a therapist who’s very effective as a coach, though, so it sort of leaves me making those circular laps. Thank you for the company!
April 6th, 2010 - 12:00
@ Melisa – You make a valid point. Unfortunately though to screen all the people in the way I would a normal client would have literally taken me all week. So I had to cut corners.
Also with the 4 session people, I have to move really quickly to get results so dealing with confidence issues may have been problematic as that takes a tad longer.
BTW, EVERYBODY has enough confidence, it’s just tapping into it at appropriate times that’s tricky.
@ Jennifer – Thanks!
