A Shortcut To Feeling Rich and Happy

I’m sure you know that one of the most powerful positive emotions known to man is gratitude. The human brain is so poor at holding two contradictory thoughts that the moment you throw a sense of gratitude into the mix it’s really difficult to feel all of those nasty negative emotions that may have previously been loitering in the nether regions of your mind.

In the exceptional book Authentic Happiness, Martin Seligman talks about an exercise designed to move us into a sense of gratitude which in turn leads to feeling happier. Seligman suggests that every now and then we should say thanks to people we are grateful for, but may not know of our gratitude.

Cute Polar Bear, huh?

If you have been following our progress with the Rich and Happy giveaway you’ll know that the path has been a less than smooth one. Even though it can at times be frustrating it is also to be expected as any huge project is an ongoing process of testing and adjusting, testing and adjusting.

One of the adjustments I have made is to forget e-mailing people with offers of help.

Laughter Is The Best Medicine

I had another life coach tell me one time that I didn’t take life seriously enough, especially as I was supposed to be helping people make positive improvements in their life.  She went on to say coaching was a serious business and it was unprofessional to be joking around with my clients and they could hire a clown if they wanted to laugh.

Her remarks caused me to slowly stroke my chin whilst gazing at my naval for some time. I then went and sat in a darkened room for 8 hours to conduct some serious soul searching as to whether I’d been a very naughty boy.

Homeless Does Not Equal Hopeless

Today we have our first ever guest post, except it's not really a guest post as Krystle the author is now very much part of the Rich and Happy project.

Since she wrote it things have taken a turn for the worse for homeless people here in Orlando. The local government are currently trying to make it illegal for charitable groups to feed the homeless in Lake Eola Park.

You Are Who You Think You Are

When Robert De Niro made ‘Raging Bull’ in 1980 he had to put on over 50lbs of weight to play the older Jake la Motta. That’s a lot of weight to gain and whereas I’m sure it’s great fun eating all that naughty food, it could be a bit tricky for the majority getting the weight it off again.  De Niro didn’t have a problem though.

Why do you think that is?

Pay It Forward

Imagine this scene. You’re on a plane with another 2 hours before you are due to land and boredom has well and truly set in. You finished the only book you had with you hours ago and you’ve decided you really don’t want to watch Shrek 4 for a third time.

So you start to rummage around in the seat pockets in front of you looking for some interesting reading matter to fill some time. Fortunately for you, it’s your lucky day, because some muppet inadvertently left a book behind in their haste to disembark the previous flight.

Hope Is Not Enough

It’s funny how the universe or God, or whatever you feel is the driving force behind this whole experience, lines things up in life.

This past week my wife had to change her dental appointment.  She had already canceled once, and so she asked me if I needed the slot.  I did.  I had been planning to schedule one for months, and just didn’t make it happen.

The Fork Of Indecision

After 6 hours walking along a path through a dense forest, 5 of which have passed without seeing a single soul, you finally accept you’re hopelessly lost.

Your map appears to have been one that Columbus decided was out of date, your compass really didn’t like being left in your bag with your trusty magnet and the pesky birds appear to have eaten all your bread crumbs that would have guided you back from whence you came.
